Over 1,500 students vote by 3pm

Over 1,500 students have so far cast their vote in today's Students' Union elections.

David Geary is overseeing the election procedure on campus today and told SIN: "At this same time (2pm) last year, only 800 people had voted. This year twice as many people have come out and voted."

He reported that in the first 20 minutes of polling 90 votes had been cast, which set a good precedent for the day.

Last year 2,300 students voted in the elections.

Polling stations are open until 9pm tonight in Aras na Mac Léinn and An Bialann.

Mr Geary said that the fact that there was a large number of candidates running in the election was a factor in the high turnout.
