NUI abolished

NUIG President Jim Browne is to meet Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe to discuss the fallout arising from the dissolution of the National University of Ireland.

Dr Browne said that it is unlikely that the university would change its name, and would be keen to retain the NUI brand.

Minister O’Keeffe announced on Wednesday that the NUI would be dissolved following a recommendation arising from the McCarthy report.

The NUI were charged with awarding qualifications at third level.
