Facebook ban to be re-introduced

A Class Reps council meeting held in the O'hEocha theatre on January 18th saw the Class Reps vote in favour of re-introducing the ban on Facebook in pc suites on campus. While many of the reps were calling for an outright ban, others saw this as excessive and a suggestion was put forward to introduce a limited ban from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and the majority of the class reps in attendance voted in favour of this.

Taking this action will certainly put the university into the spotlight. Concordia Uni in Canada banned Facebook in '08 and was subject to a media assault across the internet. However some students there were more than happy to see it gone, according to their college paper , The Concordian.

"This ban will not affect me. Actually, I take that back. I'm overjoyed," said Roxane Hudon, a political science student.

"If students want to spend their time on Facebook, checking which one of their friends is 'really tired' or 'working' or 'had a crazy time last night,' then maybe they should just stay home and watch repeats of Gossip Girl instead - it might teach them more about life."
